Remarks: occasionally we "cheat" on Gail and Mick and hit a few weekend sales. There were a couple of promising sounding sales in our favorite g.s. neighborhoods, so we headed out this morning and went to 4 of them. The sales overall were disappointing, but I did manage to find one piece of true CUUH (and it won't be ugly once it is cleaned and tuned up!)...
Amount spent: $8.00
Turquoise Free-Westinghouse sewing machine, appears to be complete and in pretty good condition: $8
As soon as I saw this machine I was reminded of one I bought for $12 two or three years ago:
This one is a Dressmaker brand and has fancier trim and knobs, but the base machine amazingly similar, making me think they were made by the same mfg. These machines were both made in Japan in the late 50s/early 60s. Japanese machines of this era are pretty well made, almost all metal, and HEAVY. Real gems for just a few $$.
