April 14 th

Weather: gorgeous, sunny, warm day--perfect!

Remarks: only a few sales today

Interesting meeting: at our first sale we met artist Lani Andrews, a very nice woman who was hosting the sale. She lives just a few blocks from us, and we have admired the sculpture of a bird she has in her front yard many, many times, of course unaware that it sat in front of the artist's home. After talking to her for awhile we toured her yard/shop area which was full of her creations, one more marvelous than the next. She creates her whimsical creatures, flowers and other objects by welding together "junk" metal, using a lot of chrome in most of them. We were just astounded by what we saw, this is really a talented artist. During a lucky lull in the sale she took us through her shop and showed us her latest work, tools and materials. Most interesting and inspirational! The highlight of today's saleing for sure! Here are a couple of examples of her work:

April 7th

Weather: cold and blustery at 9 am, sunny and warming up by 2 pm

Remarks: lots of sales, we ran out of time instead of out of sales--first time this year.

Funny story:
Joe was trying on the fleece vests at one of the sales, and he reached in one of the pockets and said, "Whoa! There's stuff in the pocket," and pulled out a kleenex, couple of candies, and a couple of dollars worth of change. The husband holding the sale was standing nearby and saw all of this, so Joe handed him the contents and said, "You're selling this for 50 cents?" The guy started laughing, and Joe put his hand in the other pocket and pulled out $8 in bills! He gave it to the seller (who was looking somewhat shocked)...and the guy gave Joe both vests free of charge! Gail, who was standing nearby and also saw the whole thing, then told the seller about the shop vac Mick bought recently for $1 which turned out to contain several dollars' worth of change when he emptied it. Like we told the fellow, "You just never know..."

Amount spent: $20.25

April 1st--Bonus: Annual Presbyterian Rummage Sale

Weather: cloudy and cool, (expected, since the sale starts at 8 am)

Remarks: this is always a great sale!

Amount spent: $11.25

The annual spring rummage sale held by the Presbyterian Church on N Garfield is the best in town, consistently. Ruck and I look forward to it every year with much anticipation, Joe has joined us in the last few years. The sale is always very organized, the merchandise is top quality, and the pricing is reasonable. The sale today lived up to expectations and we came home with some great deals. Nothing heavy enough to qualify as "true CUUH," but we are happy shoppers nonetheless.

4 wool sweaters (for fulling/felting): 50 cents each
the rest of the stuff in the picture was from a "fill a bag for 75 cents" table, it is what I could get into 1 bag. The material in the top left of the picture is all pieces/scraps of (commercial) felt; in the lower left is a piece of pink satin and a piece of black velveteen. The white materials in the center of the picture are various kinds of interfacing, fusible web and a package of fusible poly batting. Also included in the bag were a cross stitch kit (Pooh) and 10 uncut stretch-n-sew patterns, I will probably try to sell these.
